wvfc 2021 picnic
Great Food, Fellowship and Raffle Prizes
The West Virginia Falconry Club hosted its annual picnic on September 4th at the home of club president Jason Caldwell.  We extend our sincere thanks to Jason and his entire family, who without, the event could not be possible.  They all graciously pitch in each year to host us.

Attendees chipped in with covered dishes.  In particular, two amazing desserts were provided by Denise Holcomb and Nadine Lee, delicious fruity chicken salad croissants by Rich Moats and savory scalloped potatoes by John and Loretta Jones.

After lunch, Jason conducted an informal meeting where he updated members on the club's current projects. Presently, the WVFC is working with the WVDNR to update the state's falconry packet and test.  The club's website is also undergoing some updates.  Secretary/treasurer Heather McNemar encouraged members to submit falconry photos for the new gallery.  She also asked for stories and photos of the upcoming season that can be included in the club newsletter.  Lastly, Jason debuted new pewter game pins that will be awarded to attendees who take game at future club hawking meets.

This year's raffle was one of the best the club has seen with six tables worth of donations from our generous vendors.  The club was also fortunate enough to receive a collection of vintage Hawk Chalks and art from the archives of late falconer Jim Rous.  The items were donated by his daughter, Carolyn Thomas.  Some of the items were raffled and others were sold via silent auction.  In total, $904 was raised at the picnic, bringing club funds to $2,473.  The picnic was a great success, and we hope to see everyone at our next event!
