Branding:

Greener Ports for a Cleaner World

Transform Creative has gone international. We’ve been working with the Port of Bergen in Norway to launch the Environmental Port Index, a new reporting tool to improve the environmental performance of ships and ports. Throughout history, communities have been built up around ports, bringing access to trade and far-off destinations. Today more than ever, ship and port operators need to be good neighbours and take measurable action to reduce emissions. That’s where the Environmental Port Index comes in. It helps ship owners to record how well they’re doing and helps port operators to incentivise and reward cleaner ships. Our creative team of Andy, Jono and Pete helped turn the vision for the Environmental Port Index into a coherent, persuasive brand and produced a creative platform for its launch, including this video and a website.

Research:

Access to bikes

There’s a lot of work going on in Scotland to promote cycling, but what options are available for people who can’t afford or don’t yet want to buy their own bike? Our Enterprise Manager Elspeth led research for Cycling Scotland which showed that over 200 organisations across Scotland are helping to meet this need, through schemes such as cycle to work salary sacrifice, on-street bike hire, bike libraries, bike recycling and more. Recent funding from the Scottish Government has already helped to reach more people and we hope these schemes can be expanded so that everyone can chose to cycle, wherever they are in life.

Walking Connects

Living Streets’ Walking Connects project works in partnership with older adults to increase wellbeing through walking. Despite the well-known benefits of walking as we get older - keeping connected, staying healthy, maintaining independence - the poor condition of many streets is a barrier to everyday walking for many people in later life. For the past year, our creatives Ana, Emily and Andy have been working with Living Streets Scotland to design a range of case studies and guidance to help older adults take action to improve their local streets. This could be as simple as knowing who to contact to report a problem, to top tips for getting things done. Download the guide to see what action you can take.

News from our creatives

When they’re not working for Transform Creative, our team are invariably involved in a diversity of other unusual and artistic projects. Here’s what some of them were up to over the summer.

Andy has been drone-filming Cove, a secret gem hidden in the Scottish Borders:
"The secluded fishing harbour Cove sees dramatic volcanic geology meet crashing waves. There's a smuggler's tunnel and all sorts of caves, rock formations, nooks and crannies to explore. Drone flying is not permitted by the owners, but I asked nicely!"

Barry spent lockdown helping a work-from-home project for the Museum & Tasglann nan Eilean (Outer Hebrides Museum & Archive Service):
"I helped to transcribe hundreds of letters — mainly between the family of the Stornoway secondary head teacher — and documents about life on Lewis 100 years ago, which included epidemics and a European War."

"
The newest recruit to the team, Jono, decided to leave his old job during lockdown and make the leap to become a freelancer:
"Following lockdown, I felt it was important to have the freedom to be more responsive to the world and to be able to seek out more fulfilling work that could have a positive change, in any way, for the future. We creatives often wax lyrical about how we should use our powers for good, but many of us find our hands tied by higherups' keeping the lights on and paying the Adobe licenses. The work of Transform Creative is a great example of the good that can be done, and I'm delighted to now be part of this."
